Background Information

 

1) What is a Mosque? 

 

A: A mosque or 'masjid' is a place where Muslims congregate and worship their Lord. It also serves as a community centre for Muslims in the local area and provides the religious and social services needed by the Muslim community such as Islamic schools, prayer and marriage services as well as funeral services.

 

 

2) What is Halal Food?

 

A: Halal food is food that is permissible in Islamic law and can be consumed by Muslims. The opposite, 'Haram' food, is forbidden for Muslims to eat. Muslims for example cannot eat pork or drink alcohol but with regards to meat can eat beef and other meat from cattle,  as well as fish and some birds, provided they are slaughtered in the Islamic way.
